Blacksmithing
![]() Blacksmithing 101 Instructor: Ken Rose Dates: 4th Saturday of Each Month Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Class Fee: $60.00 Material Fee: Included Class Information: The students will learn to light and work with a coal forge to heat metal to more than red hot and then to use hammers and other tools to forge, bend and twist the hot metal to desired shapes. Two outdoor cooking tools, the steak turner and a pair of barbeque tongs will be completed as well as a first pair of Blacksmiths’ tongs. Satisfactory completion of Introduction to Blacksmithing is required for participation in the California Blacksmith Association’s Basic I Blacksmithing course. Currently there is a waiting list, start date must be confirmed by phone with Museum Educational Staff. Class size is limited; Pre-registration is required | ![]() Copper Formfolding From sheet to finished piece in three simple classes: You will learn the basics of foldforming -make a copper box and then finish it with patina Formfolding 101 Instructor: Pat Downing Dates: February 18th Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (1 Hour Break, Please bring your own Lunch) Class Fee: $60.00 Material Fee: Included Class Information: This hands on class is for beginners. You will be introduced to the tools and techiques used in Foldforming copper sheets. Tools and copper will be supplied. You will be responsible for your own safety equipment (eye protection, ear protection, gloves, protective clothing and closed toe shoes) Class size is limited to 10 students; Pre-registration is required For more information log on to: patdowning.com Formfolding 202 Instructor: Pat Downing Dates: February 19th Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (1 Hour Break,Please bring your own Lunch) Class Fee: $60.00 Material Fee: Included Class Information: This hands on class is for Intermediate students who have taken basic Foldforming and want to take it to the next level. You will be introduced to the tools and techiques used in Foldforming copper sheets and making them into simple cold formed (with rivets) boxes and simple bowls (using the sinking method). Tools and copper will be supplied. You will be responsible for your own safety equipment (eye protection, ear protection, gloves, protective clothing and closed toe shoes) Class size is limited to 10 students; Pre-registration is required For more information log on to: patdowning.com Copper Patina Class Instructor: Pat Downing Dates: March 3rd Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (1 Hour Break, please bring your own lunch) Class Fee: $60.00 Material Fee: Included Class Information: This hands on class is for intermediate students who have taken Foldforming and want to patina their finished projects. You will be introduced to the tools and techiques used to patina your copper projects from clean-up to coloration, to finished coating. You will need to bring one of your finished copper projects to work on. Tools and patina materials will be supplied. Furniture Restoration & Upholstery
Repair & Antique Furiture Restoration Instructor: Mary Cortmyer Dates: Every Saturday Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Class Fee: $60.00 Material Fee: Included Class Information: This course provides entry level to advanced training in antique restoration. Students will acquire basic wood restoration techniques, a working knowledge of specialized tools as well as correct restoration terminology. Students will learn to identify style, approximate age, and types of exterior woods. Excellent for students wanting to increase their knowledge. This is a hands-on class so bring your chairs, stools and small tables and learn the techniques to turn your family pieces and garage sale finds into beautiful and valuable antiques. Discussion of train control concepts; DCC and regular DC Cab Control. Locomotive power and rolling stock nomenclature and selection. Scenery construction. Weaving
![]() Intro to Weaving-Table Loom Instructor: Museum Weavers Dates: January 28th, February 4th &11th (Saturdays) Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Class Fee: $40.00 (CLASS FULL) Class Information: The public is welcome to join the Museum as a member and learn with this Intro Class with a table loom how to create bookmarks, rugs, table runners inside our 4,000 sq foot Weavers Building with more than 50 operating looms for educational use. Every Museum Weaver is a member of the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum with a commitment to education and the art of preserving. Steam Engine safety training, Start-up inspection, greasing, oiling, fire starting and fire tending. Steam Engine operation, keeping the pressure, water level and dire under control.
