Hi Folks! We're off to a running start this year. Several of the "added events" we've scheduled
this year are already past as you read this issue. February's Circus Vargas turned out to be a great event
for us and we're hoping to have them back again. Even with rain all that weekend it turned out to be
profitable for them and us.
Early in March we hosted the Spring Civil War event again. The weather was perfect
and I think this was one of their best shows ever. Our Spring run over at the Flower Fields is just now
starting to really pick up. This event gets bigger every year and thanks to lots of your help, runs
smoothly and is a great fund raiser and one of the best vehicles we have for getting out in the public
and promoting our other shows.
As I write this we're gearing up to the California Blacksmiths Association
state convention that we've been fortunate to host several times in past years.
Busy, Busy, Busy! Also note
the special offer by our
Auctioneer Tony DeZago in this issue. If you have a tractor to get rid of let us
know as soon as possible so that we can advertise and get the buyers here for you. If we can lengthen the
preview on some of the larger items, we can make the auction more profitable for everyone.
In addition to
being busy with events, we're making good progress on many projects. The new kitchen is all but completed
and we are going through the final certification process so we should be up and running for the June Show.
Our Short Track RR group is making great gains on their permanent layout featuring Donner Pass. Collections
wise, our Buffalo Pitts roller is coming back together piece by piece thanks to lots of hard work by the
Steam Team and $$ donations from Al Rhynard.
I was able to acquire several steam whistles from an
estate recently that will outfit some of our tractors. Whistles, like magnetos on the early gas equipment,
seems to be a component always missing so we were happy to find these.
While we've gotten a lot done so far,
there's lots to do to be ready for the June Show so we hope to see lots of helpers out for the work weekends.
All of that much needed rain has brought us a bumper crop of weeds. Just a friendly reminder. If you have
equipment here on loan or adopted equipment, we need your help to keep it's "foot-print" clean and weed free.
Thanks to our partnership with BSA, we've gotten several ground projects completed as Eagle Scout projects
including new gates on our storage area and footings for our bleachers. The next step is for us to begin
sorting and moving parts and non-exhibit items back to our new secure area. I look forward to seeing
you all out here for another successful show season! Sincerely,
2008 Auctions
Rod Groenewold
