We at the VA committee appreciate all the help the Museum gets from its volunteers and we’re doing what we
can to make it easier for you to help us. We have made some changes to our policies for having an RV or
camper in the VA area of the Museum. Some of the old eligibility requirements have been eliminated and
others have been simplified. Application to park in the VA must be made every year. In addition, to
make our record keeping simpler we are asking you to prepay for the year with your application.
Because of the new Museum insurance requirements we also need your current DMV and insurance information.
The new Policy #9 is printed here. Please read it over and submit your application to be considered for 2008 as
soon as possible. All existing VA residents must submit a new application for 2008.
AGSEM Policy # 9, RV parking for museum volunteer workers
The Museum operates under a lease with San Diego County Parks and Recreation Department. An
agreement provides that twenty (20) improved RV parking sites for Museum workers is reasonable.
Sixteen (16) sites shall be allocated on an annual basis and two (2) sites shall be reserved
for temporary use of less than one month, as determined by the Director. Accordingly, the
following Volunteer Accommodations policy is adapted.
The intended use of the Volunteer Accommodations (VA) area is to support museum members who
wish to participate in the development of the Museum and who by virtue of travel distance
or other circumstances would not otherwise be able to participate.
The museum provides sixteen (16) improved RV parking sites to be allocated annually, and
two (2) parking sites to be allocated for a short term, to members in good standing who request
a space, provide the greatest benefit to the museum, and meet the following qualifications:
- Agree to the terms and conditions contained herein.
- Maintain current DMV registration and liability insurance.
- Participate in projects as assigned by the Museum Director.
- Pay a security deposit as set by the Board of Trustees.
Those members desirous of a parking site and who meet the requirements above may apply by
submitting the appropriate application and maintaining the appropriate records for the museum.
Participants understand and agree that parking privileges expire annually, on December 31, and will vacate the
parking site upon expiration.
Annually, by the end of October, those members requesting parking privileges
for the following year shall reapply.
Participants further agree to:
- Refrain from utilizing air conditioning.
- Turn off all electrical appliances and refrigerators when the RV is not in use.
- Pay a monthly utility accommodation fee as set by the Board of Trustees.
- Keep the area neat and void of clutter. Each RV space is intended to accommodate one camper and one personal vehicle.
Additional vehicles are prohibited in the VA area.
- Be considerate of others at all times.
Members in default of this policy shall receive 30 days notice to correct the default. If, after 30 days,
the default is not corrected, the member may be assessed a storage fee as designated by the Board of Trustees and
the camper/RV shall be moved off the Museum grounds to an appropriate location which may include a commercial
storage yard. All associated fees shall be the responsibility of the owner.
With approval of the Director, volunteers are welcome to temporarily park a camper/RV in the campground area,
while working on special projects.
The Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, Inc. shall establish a Volunteer Accommodations Committee consisting of
at least one member of the Board of Trustees. The committee shall evaluate the use of the Volunteer Accommodations
facility to the optimum benefit of the museum and report to the Board of Trustees. Upon approval by the Board of
Trustees, the committees’ recommendations will be carried out by the Director.
Responsibilities of RV Committee:
1. Process requests, allocate sites for RV area, and prioritize participant list. List shall be prioritized by:
a. Request date.
b. Distance of travel.
c. Frequency of overnight stays at the museum.
d. Hours spent working on assigned museum projects while at the museum.
(Does not include travel time to and from home)
e. Availability of a site sufficient to accommodate the camper/RV size.
f. Overall museum benefit.
2. Review volunteer eligibility annually.
3. Recommend those members most qualified for participation to the Board of Trustees.
4. Review infractions of regulations and notify the Board of Trustees and Museum Director.
The Director shall carry out the recommendations as approved by the Board of Trustees
