Friday, October 5, started with coffee and donuts. Bob Morley soon had Hugh Mudd and Roger Meyer loading tires onto pallets to be transported off the property. Ken MacChesney, Bob Morley, and Dar Jewell left for the train area to repair a water leak. George Bohn was repairing valves on Steam Engine row’s new boilers and Ernie Walker was loading up the water truck so he could wet down the roads. Rudy Dremely was helping in Steam Engine row.

Later Hugh Mudd and Roger Meyer joined the crew working on the water leak. Guy Horton volunteered to water trees in the display area. Alice Swaim, Sally Morley and Sharon Martin started getting lunch ready. Harry Wessels came in to unload his display into the Museum Building for the October show.

Once the water leak was fixed, Bob Swaim, Ken MacChesney, Hugh Mudd, Roger Meyer, Sharon Martin, and Bob Morley started moving the awnings away from the bleachers so the bleachers could be moved back to the parade route. Those bleachers do a lot of moving during the year for each of our events.

George Bohn and Bob Swaim helped with lunch cleanup. After lunch, Dar Jewell got the forklift and started moving the bleachers. Bob Morley, Ken MacChesney and George Bohn helped with the moving and getting them in place. Once the bleachers were in place, Gary Clare got on the forklift and began carrying awnings to the parade route. The whole crew worked on putting the extensions back on the awning legs and setting them over the bleachers. I watched as Gary Clare moved one awning by the big tree across from the Museum Building. Thought the tree was going to win for a little bit, but Gary was a master at the forklift levers and soon got past the tree.

Saturday, October 6, was bright and sunny with lots of jobs to work on. Ken MacChesney started moving “cats” from tractor hill to the fence line. Then Ken and Cecil Morton moved the truck crane to the back. Later Ken joined Kent Graham, Larry Rollins and Bob Morley on cleaning up the woodpile next to our fire pit. Seems the more we burn the faster more wood piles up.

Pat Myers was in the Assembly Building teaching boy scouts how to build a truss for the door opening in the Assembly Building. It was an Eagle Scout project for one of the boys. Jeanette Stevens was busy putting out signs for the show parking. Bob Swaim was working on carts, getting them ready for show. Guy Horton, Rudy Dremely and Sharon Martin were setting up display ropes.

Alice Swaim and Sally Morley were working their magic in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Keith Richards and Paul Kuns were picking and shucking corn in the garden area. They plan to use it for display around the grounds and at the plant booth. They also did some yard clean up. Ray and Aleta Whitehead were cleaning up the campground area.

After lunch, Bob Morley moved the “band stand” to the farmhouse area for Saturday’s potluck entertainment. Richard Green and Ken MacChesney were seen moving sunshades. Sharon Martin did some clean up around the trees. Bob Morley decided to move the tires that were not disposed of back to the tire pile on the back hill.

Sunday, October 7, found Jeanette Stevens cleaning and decorating the farmhouse. Later Jeanette rounded up Dave Carroll, Richard Green and Sharon Martin to help clean out the garden area next to the farmhouse. Richard Green got the tractor and hauled the yard waste away.

George Bohn decided to install a duplex pump at Steam Engine Row. Rudy Dremely and Guy Horton were again working on display ropes. Sally Morley and Sharon Martin were preparing lunch. Chuck Allee was attending to one of the hay wagons. Kent Graham picked up and raked the grounds around Steam Engine row. Later he and Bob Morley moved the snow cat. Keith Richards and Paul Kuns started repairing the sorghum press and getting the area ready for show.

After lunch Melissa and Savannah Robinson came in and helped Chuck Allee on the hay wagon. George Bohn began restoring the Oliver Hart-Parr 18-28 tractor. Bob Morley decided to clean up around the fence line.

TO ALL OUR HELPERS A BIG --- THANK YOU!! Next work party will be NOVEMBER 30, DECEMBER 1 & 2. If you don’t get a phone call, just come on out anyway. You will need your work gloves and a hat and we will provide the lunch.

** My sincere apologies to Irene Rodgers for spelling her name incorrectly in my August write-up.
