June 16, 2007 left to right: Patrick Myers, Bill Rafnel and Jeanette Stevens wait to begin our
Weavers Loom Barn ribbon cutting ceremony
Ribbon Cutting and Open House for the Museum Weavers new building occurred June 16, 2007. This was a great day
for all of us, with a fine crowd, great cake, even a Highland Bag Piper; Colin Naismith from Rancho Bernardo.
Tears of joy were shed, and many happy smiles kept the cameras busy for hours.
During the last few weeks over
twenty-five weavers, from beginners to skilled, have come to the Loom Barn on Thursdays. Activities involve weaving,
sorting, repairing looms and getting ready for the August 24-26 Bluegrass Music Festival and AGSEM Show Days
October 20-21, 27-28.
Gradually we'll shift gears and improve our skills with small threads, block weaves,
overshot, damask, double weave and more sophisticated design and color. But don't worry, we'll still have
plenty of rag rugs for sale.
Once again we want to thank everyone who contributed to the building fund.
However, we owe special thanks to AGSEM member Al Rhynard, who put us "over the top" with
$11,500 to finish the construction. Thanks so much AL!
Each Thursday we marvel at our new weaving home and the many looms we've collected, dismantled, and restored.
What a great life to see old equipment come to life. What a great life to see new joy in people's faces and know
that the possibilities for this people and place are almost limitless. WOW! We're having such great fun! Come and join us.
The following have been included on our Donor list for the Weavers Loom Barn: Barbara Borgerd, Paul Kuns,
AGSEM Tree & Garden Group, Karen Blake, Irene Sterns, Claudin McGraw, Earl Wolf, Kent Graham and Christine Brearton.
If you have given time, money and effort to complete the Loom Barn and are not on our list, please let us know.
Thanks.
