The Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum & the California Blacksmith Association offers Blacksmithing classes at the Museum on Saturdays depending on experience level. Classes are open to all who are interested - please see course details for specifics. We welcome first-timers who'd like to check out the craft- those who attend more then once are expected to join both of our sponsoring organizations (see www.calsmith.org and www.agsem.com for membership information). California Blacksmith Association certifications can be earned at three levels through these courses. All classes start promptly at 8am with fire lighting and a thorough lesson/demonstration, then provide plenty of forge time for the project of the day (and anything else you want to work on). The shop is usually open until 3 or 4pm, sometimes later. Cost is $5.00 per class to cover part of the cost of coal and steel. Don't forget to bring lunch and water along with your tools. For questions about the type of tools needed please contact the instructor for the class before purchasing anything. |
