15 HP Reid. This engine is a single-cylinder two-stroke engine, manufactured circa 1905 by the Joseph Reid Gas Engine
Company of Oil City Pennsylvania. Oil City was the home of many oilfield engine manufacturers, such as Reid, Bessemer,
and the Oil City Boiler Works. The smaller cylinder on the side of the engine is a charging cylinder, used to force
the fuel-air mixture into the power cylinder. These engines were extremely popular with oilfield men, as they were reliable,
simple to repair, and powerful. Reid manufactured engines in sizes ranging from 6 to 40 horsepower. Restored and
donated to our Museum by Terry Hathaway.
