Out Standing In Our Field
Virgil White

Return to August 2008 Table of Contents

June 28, 2008 9 AM Greg Hayden photo of Virgil White, left, with his greatgrandaughter Skylar McHargue, who will be age 9 in September. They were performing daily chores in preparation to grind grains. Virgil has operated his Indian River Grist Mill for decades.

Boy was it hot. The first weekend wasn’t much, except for the 103 degrees it was. Everyone pretty much stayed home. Things ran ok, no breakdowns. The new kitchen is getting organized. Had a nice collection of Model “T’s”. The Arizona members came over in the hot to help the show. The second weekend Earl and Pat Wolf and Mike Jones were here to run the Altman-Taylor. I walked by the windmill as they were cranking. It wore out four of us before starting. Later, at the start of the parade it wore us out again. Julius Schnell came by on the D8 and gave a pull, started right up. Hope you all have a good summer.

A Book Store Closing
Virgil White
In Long Beach there is a bookstore called “Acres of Books”. It is at 240 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802. Phone It literally has acres of books. Shelves higher than you can reach. All the subjects you can think of. They are closing in October. It is a great place to go and look for books. Takes a while to go through it.
