Hi Folks:
We’re off to a great start! The Flower Fields are now finished and indications are that we are well above
last year in rides and revenue. Lots of hard work to keep everything going and commitment to have drivers
and volunteers on site, every day from March through May. A special thanks to Bud and Barb Watson for hours
and hours on the phone and on site, Bob Morley and Mike Stevens for hauling equipment and Cecil Morton and
crew for keeping everything running. I know I am leaving lots of important names out since everyone of you
who volunteered were instrumental in a very successful season. Don’t forget the upcoming drivers appreciation
dinner!
The
California Blacksmiths Association 2008 Conference is behind us as well. What a great tryout for
our new kitchen facilities and dining hall. Thanks to our food crew who pulled together to feed hungry
iron-pounders for three full days, we introduced our museum to many folks who’ve never been here.
Well, on to
future endeavors. Ashley and Jeanette have been busy planning and coordinating new exhibits for our upcoming
June Show celebrating 100 Years of the Model T. We’re asking everyone once again to be sure to get your show
registration in and plan to attend the Friday night welcome dinner and Saturday morning safety meeting for
all drivers.
We are also lining up consignments for the upcoming July Auction as well. Be sure to see the
special tractor sales offer below this article.
On a sad note, we lost some great friends recently. Our
senior staff member Ernie Walker passed away. He was definitely one of the builders
of our organization and as far as I can tell had been here on site for over 30 years. We’re all going to miss his talents
and friendship. Thanks to his family for a great luncheon, it was fun to get together and try to get a
count of just how many people Ernie had “accidentally” watered.
We also just got word that long time member
Al Diamond passed – 2002 Al Diamond picture on back cover.
Al was a great supporter of both our club and Branch 22 and could always be counted on to proudly carry
the flag to start our parades riding on his Cletrac.
We also lost long time members Jerre Hawk,
Bernie Robinson and Frank Burris. Bernie and Frank were 102 and 105 years of age, wow, must be something
in old motor oil that leads to longevity!
I look forward to seeing you all soon for the show.
Sincerely;
2008 Auctions
Rod Groenewold
