BEAUTIFICATION (AKA Work Party) Sharon Martin
Friday, August 3, started with the announcement that the campground needed to be cleaned up. Roger Meyer
started by taking down the bullpen that was used in the auction the prior weekend. Jim Parker, Marvin Lowe, and
John Murphy started working on taking the bleacher (pipes) awnings down. Soon Maxx Warner pitched in to help
with the awnings. Everybody stacked chairs up to put back into storage or in the BBQ area.
Meanwhile Sally Morley, Hazel Lowe, Sharon Martin, and Elaine Murphy started working on lunch. Eileen
Rodgers soon joined us along with some goodies she brought for dessert. Dar Jewell came in to boil eggs. He
plans to make pickled eggs to sell at the Pepsi booth.
Bob Morely got the forklift, and began moving the bleachers from the campground to the back of the club building
so they would be ready for Bluegrass. Dar and Ken Jewell were seen helping him get them in place.
Erine Walker and Rudy Dremely were working on replacing and repairing parts on the orange hay wagon.
We found M&W Construction guys digging and putting in a drain line behind the SOB. John, Chris, Mike, Jesus, Mario
and Dave were working so hard that we invited them to join us for lunch.
After lunch Bob Morley, Jim Parker, Marvin Lowe and John Murphy moved the shades from the campground to the parade route.
Saturday, August 4, once again found Stan Dehart, Gil Stuart, Ken Jewell, Maxx Warner, Sharon Martin, Bob Morley
and Dar Jewell putting together the pipes for the awnings. Once they were together, we attached them to the shades
and placed the shades over the bleachers on the parade route.
Lori Stuart, Sally Morley, and Eileen Rodgers were preparing lunch. Maxx Warner wandered in and they put him to
work cutting up vegetables.
Once the shades were up Dar Jewell, Stan Dehart, Gil Stuart, Gary Clare and Ken Jewell were off to set up tables
and chairs at the BBQ area.
Richard Green was busy moving the porta potties from the campground. Later he moved lots of pallets of tires down
to the steam traction barn. Bob Morley looked like he was trying to teach Gil Stuart and a couple others how to
take rims off tires. They sure seemed slow to learn. I wonder why?
Ernie Walker and Rudy Dremely were still working on the orange hay wagon. Kent Graham did some welding for them
and then worked on one of the big trash bins.
Caught Jim Phillips watering and cleaning up the herb garden by the farmhouse. Seems he comes over a couple
times a week to take care of it and it sure is looking good.
Sunday, August 5, started out with Kent Graham, Rudy Dremely, Bob Morley, Sharon Martin, Maxx Warner, Ken Humphry
and Dave Carroll finishing up the cleanup in the campground. All equipment was carted off and trash picked up.
Ken Humphry later used a dragline to smooth out the campground.
Sally Morley and Eileen Rodgers put together lunch for all our workers. Afterwards Sharon Martin helped
with cleanup. Eileen brought more goodies for dessert.
After lunch Richard Green brought more tires down to the steam traction barn. I don’t know what those tires are
doing up on the hill, but they keep multiplying. Bob Morely and Dave Carroll started taking rims off more tires.
Both Ernie Walker and Rudy Dremely were covered in grease, but the repairs on the orange hay wagon were finally finished.
It was hot this weekend, but we managed to get a lot done. Looks like we are almost ready for Bluegrass.
THANK YOU!! -- TO ALL OUR HELPERS.
Next work party will be OCTOBER 5, 6 and 7. If you don’t get a phone call, just come on out anyway.
You will need your work gloves and a hat and we will provide the lunch.
